Cambodia Gambling Halls

[ English ]

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel complex that features a number of comforts accompanying the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
