Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most borders.

The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that highlights numerous luxuries accompanying the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
